About Boutique Consultancy  ·  Sydney, Australia

We Are a Small Firm.
We Are Like That
Deliberately.

Boutique Consultancy is a specialist Executive Assistant and Personal Assistant recruitment firm based in Sydney. We work with Australia's leading organisations to find, and with Australia's finest EA and PA professionals to place. We do both of these things personally, carefully, and with complete accountability for the outcome.

Why Boutique Consultancy Exists

The Firm Was Founded
Because EA & PA Recruitment
Was Being Done Badly.

The EA and PA recruitment market in Australia was — and in many parts remains — served primarily by generalist agencies who treat executive support roles as administrative ones. The skill, judgment and seniority that a high-performing EA brings to an organisation was consistently misunderstood, undervalued and underrepresented by the recruiters supposedly serving that market. Briefs were taken imprecisely. CVs were submitted in volume. Cultural fit was a footnote. The candidate's career was a transaction.

Boutique Consultancy was established to do one thing specifically and do it properly. Not to be one of twenty practice areas. Not to place EAs and PAs alongside accountants and engineers and sales managers. To focus on this specific, misunderstood and underserved corner of the professional services market — and to do it with the relationship-driven, judgment-first approach that the work actually requires.

What that decision produced: a firm that every client knows will handle their brief personally. That every candidate knows will represent her accurately. That has built its entire reputation on the quality of its introductions rather than the volume of its submissions. Small, by design. Specialist, by conviction.

The Deliberate Choice

Boutique Is Not
Our Size.
It Is Our Standard.

"Every firm that grows past a certain size makes the same trade. Volume for relationship. Process for judgment. Speed for accuracy. We made the opposite choice — and we have not regretted it."

On Accountability

Personal accountability
is impossible at scale.

When a firm places thousands of candidates a year, no individual consultant owns the outcome of a placement the way we do. We know every person we place. We know every client we serve. When something goes wrong — and sometimes things do — there is no process to hide behind. That accountability concentrates the mind. It produces better outcomes than any quality framework a larger firm can implement.

On Expertise

This market rewards
depth, not breadth.

The EA and PA professional community in Australia is not large. The senior end of that market is smaller still. Genuine expertise in this space is built through years of specific, relationship-built experience — not through volume. Our depth of candidate relationships exists because we have been consistently present in this specific market, talking to the same community of professionals, over years.

On Quality

Our clients deserve
our best thinking.

Every client we take on receives our full attention. We do not take briefs we cannot serve properly. We do not take on more work than we can handle at the standard we expect of ourselves. That means we sometimes say no. It means our capacity is finite. It also means that the experience of working with us is consistently the experience of working with someone who is genuinely focused on your outcome.

"Boutique is not an apology for our size.
It is a description of our standard."

A Note From Our Founder

To the people who have considered working with us —

I started this firm because I believed there was a better way to do this work. Not a revolutionary way — a better one. More careful. More honest. More invested in the outcome for both sides of every introduction.

I had worked in recruitment long enough to see what happens when volume becomes the primary metric. Candidates are pushed into roles that do not fit them. Clients receive shortlists assembled under time pressure rather than considered judgment. Both sides end up managing the consequences of a process that prioritised speed over fit.

We do not operate that way. Every brief we accept is one we believe we can serve properly. Every candidate we represent is someone we are genuinely willing to stake our professional reputation on. When we say we will call — we call. When we say a role is right — we mean it.

The EA and PA professionals we represent are exceptional at what they do. They deserve a recruiter who understands that, represents them accurately, and places them somewhere equal to what they bring. The organisations we serve deserve a recruitment partner who takes the brief seriously enough to get it right.

That is what we try to do. Every time. Whether the role is placed in three weeks or twelve months — the standard does not change.

With genuine regards, Boutique Consultancy Founder & Director · Sydney, Australia

What We Have Learned

The Philosophy That
Shapes Every Introduction
We Make.

These are not values adopted for marketing purposes. They are the conclusions we have reached through years of specific, repeated observation inside the EA and PA recruitment market.

Talk to us about your requirements

Skills are necessary.
Fit is everything.

A candidate whose technical capability exactly matches the job description will fail if her working style and values are incompatible with her principal. We have seen it. The reverse is equally true: a candidate whose CV is not the strongest on a shortlist can become the most consequential EA a principal has ever worked with, because the fit is precisely right. Every process we run begins and ends with fit.

The brief you write is not
always the brief you have.

A client who asks for "a strong EA with board experience" is telling us the functional requirements. They are not telling us — and may not even consciously know — that their last two EAs left because of a communication mismatch at the first point of pressure. We listen for the brief behind the brief. It requires a conversation, not a form.

An EA's career is a serious
and significant thing.

The EA and PA professional is often the most informed, capable and undervalued person in her organisation. She manages complexity that most of her colleagues cannot see. Her career deserves to be handled by someone who understands this — not by a recruiter who thinks the role is an admin function. We represent our candidates at the level of what they actually do, not what the job title implies.

Speed is the enemy
of placement quality.

The recruitment industry rewards speed because time-to-fill is measurable. Quality of fit is not immediately measurable. The incentive structures of volume recruitment create pressure to submit quickly and close at pace. These pressures produce wrong placements. We resist them not because we are slow but because we refuse to let speed displace judgment.

A great EA placement
changes two careers.

When the match is right, it is multiplicative. The principal operates better, thinks more clearly, leads more confidently. The EA is in an environment that values what she brings and gives her room to grow. We have never forgotten that what we do at its best makes an exceptional difference to two people's professional lives. That is what keeps the work serious — and what we return to every time the pressure to move faster builds.

The People You Will Work With

A Small Team.
By Design.

Boutique Consultancy is deliberately small. Quality of service is impossible at scale in relationship-driven recruitment. Every client and candidate works directly with an experienced consultant — not a junior generalist, not a tiered process. The person who takes your call is the person who does the work.

Founder & Director — Executive Support Recruitment

I have been in EA and PA recruitment for over a decade. What keeps me here is the same thing that brought me here: I find the work genuinely interesting. Understanding what makes an exceptional EA exceptional — and then finding the right environment for that person — requires a kind of judgment that you cannot systematise or delegate. It has to be done by someone who cares about the outcome. That is what I show up to do.

I built Boutique Consultancy because I believed the EA and PA professional deserved better representation than the market was giving her. Better understanding of her role, better matching to her next position, and better treatment of her career as the significant thing it is. I also believed that clients deserved a recruitment partner who actually listened to their brief before deciding what to send.

After this many years, I still take every brief personally. I still remember every placement. I still hear from candidates we placed years ago. That is the measure I care about most — not revenue, not volume, not market share. The relationship that continues.

"The recruiter's judgment is the product. You cannot automate that. You earn it through genuine relationships — with clients who trust you, and candidates who know you will never put them somewhere wrong."

Senior Consultant — EA & PA Recruitment

Understanding what an EA does at a senior level — what it actually involves, what makes it hard, what makes it rewarding — is what allows me to represent our candidates properly. I spent years in that environment before moving into recruitment. When I sit across from a candidate, I am not guessing at what her experience looks like. I know it.

I take the brief seriously. Not the headline requirements — the real brief. What kind of principal is this person going to be supporting? What is the communication style, the pace, the culture? What has worked in that office before, and what has not? Those are the questions that determine whether a placement lasts — and they are the questions I ask before I present anyone.

Candidates come back to us years after placement because they know we took the time to understand what they were looking for — and they trust us to do the same the next time. That trust is what I work to earn, and to keep.

"Understanding what an EA actually does is the minimum standard for representing her properly. Most recruiters do not reach it. That gap is where Boutique exists."

Consultant — Business Support Recruitment

The part of this job I find most rewarding is the first placement someone makes with us. Not because it is the largest fee or the most senior role — but because it is the moment a candidate realises that working with a specialist recruiter who genuinely understands her world is a fundamentally different experience from what she has encountered before.

I work primarily with candidates in the earlier stages of their Executive Support career — Team Assistants, Business Support Coordinators and EAs making their first senior step. Those placements matter enormously. Getting them right sets the trajectory of a career. Getting them wrong can set it back by years. I take that seriously.

I am also the person most likely to still be in contact with a candidate three years after placement. I think that is the job. Not just the introduction — the ongoing relationship.

"The first placement is the one that earns the long-term relationship. That is where I invest the most care — and where the investment pays off for years."

What We Hold Ourselves To

Our Principles.
In Practice.

These are not aspirational values adopted for a website. They are operational commitments we have made to every client and candidate we work with — and which we are comfortable being held to.

We take only the briefs
we can serve properly.

We would rather decline an engagement than take it on and handle it inadequately. Our capacity is finite. Our standards are not.

We never submit
without a conversation.

No CV goes to a client without that candidate knowing and agreeing. No candidate goes forward for a role she has not been fully briefed on. This is a commitment, not optional process.

We give honest feedback
even when it is uncomfortable.

A candidate deserves to know why she was not progressed. A client deserves to know when their brief is unrealistic. We have those conversations because they are more valuable than comfortable silence.

We stay engaged
after placement.

The work does not end at offer acceptance. We remain available and attentive through the settling-in period. Both client and candidate have direct access to us throughout.

We protect confidentiality
as though our business depends on it.

Because it does. Every career conversation, every client brief and every organisational detail we are trusted with is treated with the discretion it was shared with.

We are honest about
what we do not know.

We are specialists in EA and PA recruitment. When a question is outside our area of specific expertise, we say so. We do not speculate where we should admit a limit.

Beyond Recruitment

What We Owe the Community
We Are Part Of.

The EA and PA professionals we represent are part of a close, connected community. They know each other, refer each other, and talk about their experiences with recruiters in terms that travel quickly. Our reputation within this community is our most valuable asset — more valuable than any marketing, any case study, or any award. We protect it accordingly.

We invest in this community because we believe it deserves to be invested in. The EA and PA role is chronically undervalued by the business world and chronically under-served by the recruitment industry. We contribute through honest salary guidance, career transition advice, market observations, and the simple, consistent act of treating every person we speak with as someone whose career and professional reputation genuinely matter to us.

When clients ask how we find the candidates we present — professionals they have not seen elsewhere, people who were not advertising their availability — the answer is this: they are in our network because they trust us with their career information. That trust was earned over years of consistent, respectful, relationship-driven work. It is not transferable. And it is why our shortlists look different from the ones you have received before.

"The best part of this job is not the placement — it is the call three years later. The candidate calling to say it was the right move. The client calling because she has a new brief. Those calls mean the relationship worked. That is what we are actually building."
